Roo and AJ in Greenville.

Selamat pagi!

This is why Roo is driving to Greenville today. This is AJ, one of our cancer patients. Roo is staying in an apartment with him for 2 weeks because his regular caregivers are elsewhere.

My freind Melissa..What an amazing woman!

A few weeks ago, my friend Sheri and I joined a few other Sea Shepherds on a campaign that took place on Utila Island Honduras. Utila is a curious, chaotic, funky little island full of 60-something hippies with long grey ponytails and hundreds of young scuba divers, eager to be certified very inexpensively - all mixed up with the local Hondurans. 
Our purpose there was to join up with the local conservationists to protect a kilometer of beach that is extremely important to the Hawksbill turtle which breeds there in large numbers during the season. It was such a rewarding campaign - we were up all night performing beach patrols and counting Mama turtles as they lay their eggs. I learned so much. Our presence on the beach warded off would-be poachers and provided valuable data on nesting wherabouts. In between patrols we lay on sleeping bags in the sand under a ridiculously clear Milky Way counting meteors.... It was the experience of a lifetime. smile emoticon When the babies are ready to hatch, they are given the maximum amount of time to do so naturally. The nest is often "processed" by the researcher to give the babies the best chance to make it to the sea to start their perilous life journey.
