Mam, do you remember the night I danced on stage there? The SAME stage the Bolshoi Ballet danced on!

Stapelia gigantea
The fuzzy, mesmerizing, starlike bloom of this plant is captivating enough to draw you in — but the stench is sure to drive you away. Stapelia gigantea is a carrion flower, and emits the stench of rotting flesh. In fact, the flower's hairy, leathery texture is believed to mimic the rotting flesh of a dead animal, for added effectiveness in luring in its pollinator of choice: flies. Because of their alluring appearance, the flowers enjoy some relative fanfare among cultivators. Understandably, it is strongly recommended that they be kept outdoors, where the fresh air can dilute the odor.

My day with Toon.
Palace Soestdijk. Soestdijk Palace is a former palace of the Dutch Royal Family. It consists of a central block and two wings. Although named after the village of Soestdijk, which is largely in the municipality of Soest, the Soestdijk Palace is just north of the border in the municipality of Baarn in the province of Utrecht. It was the home for over six decades of the late Queen Juliana and her husband, the late Prince Bernhard until their deaths in 2004.
In the pancake restaurant. This is a picture of another palace in that area. Drackenstein. Great pancakes!
Pannekoekenhuis... The Pancake House!
Cute row houses in de Lage Vuursche. A village in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It lies about 5 km west of Soest, in the middle of the forest. Drakenstein, the residence of Princess Beatrix, is situated just east of the village. Her son, Prince Friso, is buried in the graveyard beside the castle. The village of Lage-Vuursche has 139 inhabitants. Apart from the royal family, the most famous person from Lage Vuursche is athlete Fanny Blankers-Koen, four times gold medalist in the 1948 Summer Olympics.

Walking in Oosterbeek with Mieke and Frits.
We walked here. De Hemelse Berg. "The Heavenly Hill." As close to heaven as I will get.
The area were we walked today is full of WW2 history, in particular: Operation Market Garden.
To the north of Oosterbeek the 4th Parachute Brigade led an attempt by the 1st Airborne Division to break through the German lines but communication difficulties and enemy resistance caused the attack to fail with heavy losses. The Division, scattered far and wide and hard pressed by the enemy on all sides had lost its offensive capability. Unable to help Lt.-Col. Frost at the bridge, the remaining soldiers attempted to withdraw into a defensive pocket at Oosterbeek and hold a bridgehead on the north bank of the Rhine.
In the woods to the west of Oosterbeek the 4th Parachute Brigade was fighting its way towards the divisional perimeter but was under severe attack from German troops supported by artillery, mortars and tanks (some mounting flame-throwers). Their casualties were heavy; the 10th Battalion reached Oosterbeek in the early afternoon but with only 60 men.
